GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan – Several Genesee County residents got to watch President Barack Obama address University of Michigan graduates at their commencement ceremony Saturday in Ann Arbor.

Among spectators were University of Michigan-Flint students Penny Beckwith, of Swartz Creek and Corrina English.

“What are the odds you’ll ever see a sitting president,” Beckwith said in this Detroit News article.

Meanwhile, Mount Morris resident Mike Jones, 49, who attended to watch his brother receive a master’s degree, wasn’t wowed.

“That was not his best speech,” Jones told the newspaper. “I’ve heard better from him. But I was still excited to see him.”

Obama spoke to roughly 80,000 people in attendance at Michigan Stadium in his commencement address that included his challenge to grads “How will you keep our democracy going?”

UM-Flint students and faculty were allotted a few hundred tickets to attend the ceremony.
