Earlier today, THR reported that Henry Cavill has officially stepped down from playing Superman in future Warner Bros./DC films amid contract negotiations falling through. While reports are saying that DC has no intentions to move forward with any Superman films anytime soon. However later in the day IGN reported this afternoon that Michael B. Jordan is being considered to play Superman for future DC films.
Deadline’s sources state that Superman films are still a few years away but Warner Bros. has been entertaining the idea of shaking things up and going in new directions going forward. Jordan is no stranger to comic book films, in 2015 the actor portrayed the hot-headed hero The Human Torch in Fox’s “Fantastic Four” and most notably the actor gained critical praise for his performance as the villain Killmonger in this years “Black Panther” which grossed over $1 billion dollars worldwide.
In other Warner Bros. news it seems as though their extended universe may be falling apart as reports began circulating that Ben Affleck was in talks to step down as DC’s flagship character Bruce Wayne aka Batman. Both Henry Cavill and Affleck have appeared in multiple Warner Bros. films as DC’s two most popular characters and were in plans to have solo films of their own coming up, but considering the negative press and reviews that the most recent Warner Bros./DC films have gotten, it seems as though Warner Bros. and DC is ready to hit the reset button on their Marvel inspired Universe.
Despite this news Warner Bros./DC still has several superhero films at or nearing completion including “Aquaman” (2018), “Wonder Woman 1984” (2019), and “Shazam” (2019). Moving forward we will keep an eye on what Warner Bros does moving forward.
