Now that the dust has settled in the Kawhi Leonard saga, its time for the those involved in or around the trade to speak about it. Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri has already apologized to DeMar DeRozan for how things went down, and now it’s the San Antonio Spurs’ legend David Robinson to speak on the blockbuster trade.
Robinson didn’t mince words during his interview with Rachel Nichols, the host of ESPN’s The Jump. When asked about his reaction to the Kawhi situation and how he handled it specifically Robinson said it was “one of the oddest situations I’ve seen since I’ve been in pro basketball.”
When Nichols asked Robinson if he ever spoke to the quiet superstar, Robinson broke out in laughter and added:
“Has anybody spoke to Kawhi about this? I talked to his uncle, does that count? He’s a hard guy, he’s just quiet. I’ve reached out to him several times and just never hear anything back from him. I think the whole time he’s been here, I’ve talked to him a handful of times – and I can count on one hand how many words he’s really said to me. He’s just a quiet guy, and I think that’s made it difficult for all parties to really understand each other in this process.”
This NBA offseason has been one for the ages. When the blockbuster swap went down, it was being reported that Leonard did not want to be a Raptor and still aims to be a free agent next summer. Los Angeles is still on his mind, and he is will to take the discount to land in his preferred choice of location whether it’s with the Lebron-led Lakers or Clippers. He has since warmed up to the idea of being a Raptor for now and has reported to the team.
We can’t wait till next season starts up.
