UPDATE: Tuesday Jan. 16 4:00 P.M.
As gymnasts continue to admit that Nassar sexually assaulted them over the course of his 20-year career, McKayla Maroney will be fined $100K if she speaks at Nassar’s sentencing because she signed a Nondisclosure agreement. But, Chrissy Teigen is willing to pay that fine for her.
It’s been less than a week since USA Gymnast Maggie Nichols came forward about being sexually assaulted by former team doctor Larry Nassar, and now Simone Biles has decided to share her story as well.
Biles took to Twitter Monday night to reveal her own encounters with Nassar with the hashtag #MeToo.
“I, too, am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar. Please believe me when I say it was a lot harder to first speak those words out loud that it is now to put them on paper. There are many reasons that I have been reluctant to share my story, but I know now that it is not my fault,” Biles writes.
Like many other young female gymnasts who have come forward, Biles recounts an injury that Nassar wanted to give “special treatment.” Biles goes on to explain how she initially felt like she was the one to blame, partially for being too naive and just letting it happen.
“For far too long I’ve asked myself ‘Was I too naive? Was it my fault?’ I now know the answer to those questions. No. No. It was not my fault. No, I will not and should not carry the guilt that belongs to Larry Nassar, USAG, and others,” she writes.
After hearing several of her Final Five teammates and other USA gymnasts bravely came forward, she had the courage to do the same. “After hearing the brave stories of my friends and other survivors, I know that this horrific experience does not define me.”
The 20-year-old gymnast’s admission comes just a day before Nassar’s sentencing for sexually abusing over 100 girls. Nassar’s first victim Kyle Stephens —and only nonmedical victim— spoke to a full courtroom about Nassar’s abuse that she endured from age 6 to 12.
“Little girls don’t stay little forever,” Stephens said. “They grow into strong women that return to destroy your world.”
Nassar has already been sentenced to 60 years in prison, but according to CNN 98 more victims are expected to tell their stories.
