If you are not familiar with the 22-year-old Philadelphia native, you are surely familiar with the hit singles he has produced. Maaly Raw who is now a two times platinum producer has worked with the hottest hip-hop stars in the industry; especially artist coming straight out of Philly like Meek Mill and Lil Uzi Vert. Born Jamal Henry, Maaly Raw is known for propelling song’s that turn into mega Billboard hits. With a keen ears for melody and unconventional sounds Maaly Raw is working overtime to help upcoming artist. Maaly Raw recently worked heavily on Lil Uzi Vert’s recent project Luv Is Rage 2 producing “444+222″ and “Dark Queen”. He has also worked with the likes of Meek Mill, PNB Rock and The Weeknd.
Maaly Raw speaks with Fader.com about his journey from making beats in his room to making beats for some of biggest artist in the music industry. From being heavily influenced by his father who played trumpet in a jazz band; and listening to his mother’s favourite artist such has Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder he talks about the importance of melody in creating beats. He also touches on his admiration for Gucci Mane and how the Writing On The Wall mixtape first introduced him to the trap beats. Moreover, he talks about his connection to Lil Uzi Vert and working on Luv Rage 2.
