J.Cole is a very closed off individual so it’s hard to keep up with him but when he does decide to give us news it’s pretty exciting! Recently Cole’s been on tour for his latest album 4 Your Eyez Only. After releasing the album Cole also gave us a documentary titled 4 Your Eyez Only that went into detail about the struggle of black communities in the south. Lately, the platinum selling artist has been giving us a lot of pieces of himself in his work. We’ve already been given a documentary by Cole that followed the creation of his album 2014 Forrest Hills Drive. That album and documentary showed us his hometown of Fayetteville North Carolina and went in depth of Cole’s thoughts and feelings growing up in a small town with not a lot of opportunity.

Now the Carolina native isn’t going to be the center of attention in his latest film work but he is again giving us a taste of real life in the south. Cole’s Executive producing a documentary titled Raising Bertie; The documentary will air on PBS August 28th and is about the lives of David “Bud” Perry, Reginald “Junior” Askew, and Davonte “Dada” Harrell. The film will take viewers through the lives of these three young men over their past six years growing up in rural Bertie County.

The documentary will show how the boys deal with life situations like family, relationships, employment but also much more severe trials and tribulations such as the poor education system, systematic racism while trying to graduate.
