“I CANNOT CALL MYSELF THE BEST RAPPER IF I HAVE A GHOST WRITER.” -KENDRICK LAMAR
King Kendrick has spoken! While being interviewed by the Rolling Stone, Kendrick Lamar was asked to speak on artists using ghost writers and this is what he had to say.
“I cannot call myself the best rapper if I have a ghostwriter.” That’s what the Compton native had to say about rappers using ghost writers. Kendrick went on to say that “If you’re saying you’re a different type of artist and you don’t really care about the art form of being the best rapper, then so be it. Make great music. But the title, it won’t be there.” In essence, the Good Kidd means that if you’re claiming yourself to be the best rapper, an artist can’t claim that title if not all the work is present and not all of the work is theirs; the best rappers write their own lyrics. That is a bold statement from a very bold artist in the rap game.
K.Dot can talk all he wants after his latest studio album DAMN went gold three weeks after its initial release and platinum two months post release while spending 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 as the number 1 album. Kung Fu Kenny is also known as one of hip hop’s current heavyweights and has a widely respected opinion. The “HUMBLE” rapper also won best male hip hop artist at the BET awards.
What will be the final verdict on ghost writing in the rap industry? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
