Best In Black Detroit 2016The Michigan Chronicle and Radio One Detroit proudly announce the Best in Black Awards! Together, we want to celebrate the best in black-owned businesses, community organizations, entrepreneurs and entertainers in and around Detroit but we need your help!

The Best in Black Awards are community choice awards, where finalists and winners are nominated and voted for by you, the people. We are recognizing people and businesses in over 40 categories. From your favorite stylist, to the best BBQ joint in the D, we will honor those receiving the most nominations/votes during a live awards show this Fall.

Vote for your faves today and help them receive the recognition they deserve! See below for a complete list of nomination categories.



Categories are as follows:

Community/Professional: Best Attorney and Best Elected Official

Education: Best School Teacher, Best High School, Best School Principal, Best Marching Band, Best High School Coach, Best High School Athlete, Best Sorority, Best Fraternity

Food/Drink: Best Bar/Club/Lounge, Best Restaurant, Best Food Franchise

Leisure/Entertainment: Best Top news anchor, Best Instagram Personality, Best Club Promoter, Best Local Artist, Best Comedian, Best Live Band, Best Local Film

Services: Best Photographer/Videographer, Best Caterer, Best Car Dealership, Best Hair Salon, Best Barber shop, Best Personal Trainer, Best Make-up Artist, Best Car Wash/Auto detailing, Best Clothing Store, Best Cosmetologist, Best Barber, Best Local Producer, Best Nail Technician, Best Clothing Line/Designer, Best Tattoo Artist

Religion: Best Gospel/ Church Choir, Best Pastor, Best Church, Best First Lady

Nominations begin Wednesday, July 13 at www.michiganchronicle.com/best-in-black-awards, voting of the top finalist from each category will end before midnight on September 4. Winners will be revealed LIVE during the Best in Black Detroit awards ceremony in September. Venue and time to be announced.

Mark your calendar. Below are some important dates and deadlines for the Michigan Chronicles Best in Black Awards, so mark your calendars and spread the word.

July 13: Nominations open for everyone to submit their choice for Best in Black featuring the 40 categories listed above.

August 7: Nominations close and the people/businesses with the most nominations go on to the finalists round.

August 12: Voting opens for the top three nominated people/businesses in each category. Make sure you spread the word to vote for one of the top three finalists.

September 4: Voting polls close and votes will be tallied up; the top winners of all the categories will be announced at the Best in Black Awards on September 16.
