The Weeknd’s donation is no surprise, considering he has been quite vocal about his views on police brutality in the past.
After the shootings, which killed Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, he took to Twitter to vocalize his frustration.
“Enough is enough. it’s time to stand up for this. we can either sit and watch, or do something about it. the time is now.#blacklivesmatter,” he said. In a follow-up tweet, Weeknd took a shot at police. “#BLUELIVESMURDER,” he wrote.
