After winning the Big Ten tournament championship game over Purdue on Sunday, some fans may have felt that they deserved a No.1 seed.
However, on Sunday evening, the selection committee announced that Michigan State was awarded the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region of the bracket.
As some Spartan fans were up in arms over the Spartans not being named a No. 1 seed early in that show, the Spartans gave the collective shrug of a team confident it can go on a deep tournament run with our without that seed.
“If they feel like we’re a two seed, go ahead and put us there,” said Denzel Valentine, the Big Ten tournament MVP. “See what we do.”
Spartans coach Tom Izzo, echoed the reactions of his players.
“I really don’t care,” Izzo said of not being a No. 1 seed. “We’re going to have to play, if you’re a 1, you’re going to have to play a good 2. How many times does it come down to that anyway?”
Spartans will play the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, in St. Louis before moving to Chicago for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds.
