We all remember last year when TIDAL, Jay Z’s streaming service, was sued by Young Money/Birdman for allegedly illegally releasing Lil Wayne’s music, less than a year after its formation in March 2015.
And now TIDAL is being dealt another big blow, a $5 million blow to be exact, from artist John Emanuele along with his company. Emanuele recently filed a copyright infringement suit, alleging that the streaming service streamed music without proper authorization from independent artists. As a result, the proper amount of royalties were not paid to artists.
This comes as an ironic twist, as TIDAL was formed on the basis of maintaining artists rights and helping them to profit from their projects. With this service being relatively new, do you think these lawsuits send up a red flag? Or is this just apart of the game? Let us know what you think!
