Remember when we were all anticipating the release for Anti? Well it’s here and it’s sad to say most people aren’t impressed.
Rihanna’s highly anticipated album sold less than 1000 copies in the U.S.! Just when you thought Rihanna Navy was going to pull through they left Rihanna out to dry.
Tidal further said that it had sold 484,833 downloads of the album, in addition to those given away as part of the Samsung promotion, and that the album was streamed 5.6 million times on its service.
But despite those big numbers, “Anti” had a low start on the Billboard album chart this week, opening at No. 27 — Rihanna’s lowest opening chart position. Nielsen reported that the album sold fewer than 1,000 copies in the United States.
Universal Music group also blames Tidal for Rihanna’s messy album release. A spokesperson for the label said, “This whole thing is absurd, we would have taken responsibility if it were our error,” says one UMG executive who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“Instead of having their flack fail around trying to revise their own media spin, maybe they should just focus on serving Rihanna– that’s what we’re focused on.”
