In a statement released in early January, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson said, “Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future.”

In fact, according to ESPN, Johnson reportedly told head coach Jim Caldwell that 2015 would be his last season the day after Detroit’s final game.

Schefter said Johnson was planning on 2015 being his last season before the campaign started. Johnson reportedly pointed to injuries and the beating his body has taken as reasons for his retirement.
