Over the years, the “Spirit of Detroit” statue has been dressed in oversized jerseys of the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings and Lions in honor of the teams’ championship bids.
However, on Monday, a crew on put a big Michigan State Spartans jersey on the 26-foot-tall bronze statue outside the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building. This move is honor of the Spartans who will play Alabama in a national semifinal at the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31st.
Michigan State says this marks the first time the “Spirit of Detroit” statue has worn a Spartans jersey.
