Residents can Receive Emergency Alerts from the City of Detroit
System can help citizens respond and plan when critical incidents occur.
Detroit residents can sign up to receive emergency alerts from the City of Detroit through the Nixle emergency alert notification system. Subscribers can receive information about emergency situations or evacuation alerts, which will enable them to respond and plan appropriately.
To sign up for the free service, residents can simply text the word “DETROIT” in the message box to 888777. Or, they can visit the Detroit Homeland Security & Emergency Management website at www.detroitmi.gov/dhsem and click on Nixle Emergency Alerts, or visit the DHSEM Facebook page at https://facebook.com/detroithsem/. Residents can tailor exactly what information they want to receive and how they want to receive it — via text or email.
“The well-being and safety of the citizens of Detroit is our main priority,” said DHSEM Director Lawrence Meyer. “With this notification system, residents can personally receive real-time emergency alerts and keep apprised of what’s going on in the community so they can stay safe.”
