DEARBORN, MI – Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans today joined representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to encourage resident enrollment in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and announced two enrollment events being hosted in November by the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness.

The “Get Covered Wayne County” events, scheduled for November 5 and 18 are designed to help the uninsured residents of Wayne County apply for health care coverage; and introduce attendees to the services offered by Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness. Community organizations will also present services they offer.

According to countyhealthrankings.org and Enroll America, statistics show that 13% to 16% of the people in Wayne County remain uninsured. Nearly half of these people are eligible for Medicaid but have not yet enrolled. The other half are people who are eligible for a tax credit and those who are not eligible for financial assistance due to multiple factors.

“The well-being of Wayne County’s residents ranks high on our list of priorities so we are happy to work with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help our citizens get important information on the Affordable Care Act,” said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans.  “In just a few days, residents who need quality, affordable healthcare coverage will gain access to open-enrollment for their families.  We want to ensure that every Wayne County resident in need of healthcare coverage is connected to the information and the people who can help them make informed decisions about becoming insured.”
