The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. and MDOT closed the eastbound lanes about 10 minutes later, spokeswoman Diane Cross said. It wasn’t immediately known how the crash happened, but part of the vehicle was at risk of falling onto Wayne Road, which was also closed.
“There also was a fuel spill, which creates a hazmat situation, so this one will be working for a while,” Cross said.
The condition of the driver wasn’t known. Michigan State Police couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
Eastbound traffic was being forced off at Wayne Road and back onto the freeway but Cross said drivers could avoid delays by exiting at I-275 and connecting with other freeways such as I-96 or Eureka Road to get to Metro Airport.
