Kym Worthy gets Detroit Crime Commission grant to hire investigators for untested rape kit cases

The Wayne County Prosecutor is about to get more detectives to help her solve sexual assault cases.

The Detroit Crime Commission is giving a grant to the prosecutor’s office so they can hire five detectives for a year. The investigators will help the prosecutors pursue rape cases.

Back in 2009, more than 11,000 rape kits that had never been tested for DNA matches were found stashed away in a Detroit police warehouse.

Worthy has been pushing for extra funding to get the kits tested.

Private donations have been pouring in, and now some of that money is being earmarked to push the cases forward.

The Detroit Crime Commission is giving Worthy’s office grant funding in the amount of $325,914 to pay for detectives to run down leads on these old cases … click here for more details!

Police arrest abduction suspect after chase in southwest Detroit

Officers from the Detroit Police Department have arrested a man after a chase in southwest Detroit this morning.

Officers at the scene tell Local 4 the initial call came in as an abduction in the area of Michigan Ave. and Central.  When police approached the minivan the driver fled.

The woman was able to escape when the driver slowed in the area of Michigan Ave. and Junction.

The driver continued to flee officers before bailing out in the area of Plumer and Manson.

9-year-old autistic boy still missing

Police say 9-year-old Omarion Humphrey is still missing after every resource was used to find him during a large-scale technical search on Wednesday.

At this point, police say the large scale search is discontinued, but the investigation is not over. Officials will continue searching for the boy, who suffers from severe autism.

This is still a missing persons case. Police say they have plenty of data and now they’re going to review it to pinpoint any spots they want to search on Thursday.

“It is very, very realistic that he is safe and sound,” police said.
