12-year-old boy shot in drive-by in southwest Detroit
Detroit police were at the scene of a shooting of a 12-year-old boy Wednesday night.
The boy was struck in the body but is expected to recover. He was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting took place outside of his house on Beatrice Street near Francis on the southwest side about 7:45 p.m.

Police arrest suspected serial rapist on Detroit’s southwest side
Detroit police say they have arrested a man in connection with several sexual assaults on the city’s southwest side.
Ali Nasser Alriashi, 31, was arrested earlier this week during a traffic stop. While officers had him pulled over, a woman flagged them down and said she had been sexually assaulted by the suspect a while ago.
Officers impounded his vehicle and made the arrest on June 8.
Investigators believe the suspect has committed several sexual offenses against women in the southwest Detroit area for the past four months.
Ali Nasser Alriashi has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree and Kidnapping.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a 33-year-old Detroit woman this past May at Jefferson and West End in Detroit. In a second case police believe he kidnapped and raped a woman at gunpoint on May 25. at West End and Barnes … click here for more details.
Council presents new curfew plan for Detroit fireworks
A new curfew for the Detroit Ford Fireworks has been proposed, after backlash from the previously proposed curfew.
In the past, the curfew has been only on the night of the event. This year, however, police proposed an extended curfew that would be enacted from June 19-22 between the times of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Anyone under the age of 17 would be prohibited to be outside without a parent during those times.
The American Civil Liberties Union and some parents felt the proposed curfew was unfair and unconstitutional.
Now, the Detroit City Council has turned around a new curfew proposal. If passed, the proposal would enact a curfew the day of the fireworks, June 22, from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. The proposal also includes adding a second curfew during the Detroit River Days. That curfew would be from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m., but only be in effect in the area the festival is taking place … click here for more details.
