Remember that amber alert that LOUDLY alerted your phone about a child abduction while you getting the best sleep of your weekend?  Yeah, me too!!  A  23-year-old Illinois man is set to be arraigned Monday afternoon after prosecutors say he stole a woman’s car in Romulus on Saturday — then intentionally drove off with her 16-month-old child in the back seat, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jawaan Johnson, of Markum, Ill., carjacked the 24-year-old woman at around 2 a.m. Saturday while in the 31100 block of Flynn Drive, said Assistant District Attorney Maria Miller in a news release. He then drove off with the car even though the woman’s child was still inside, Miller said.

After an Amber Alert was sent out, a witness spotted Johnson near Merriman and Michigan Avenue and called police, who arrested Johnson. The child was found unharmed.

Johnson is being charged with carjacking, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and larceny between $200 and $1,000 for taking items in the car.
