The Queen Latifah Show has been cancelled. NewsOne is reporting that the show’s staff was brought into a meeting on Friday morning and told that the show was over. While there were no specifics, it’s being said that it’s about ratings and cost.
It was just two months ago when #TeamBeautiful chopped it up with Queen and she was very excited about her the second season of her day time talk show. “This show is truly the embodiment of my journey. Nothing makes me happier than to have the opportunity to share my experience with others and give people a chance to realize their dreams,” she said with a smile in her voice. Sadly, that excitement didn’t last long.
Queen took to her Facebook page and shared a message to her staff, herself and anyone who ever helped her to get her show off the ground:
Aww sad. This was Queen’s second attempt at having her own day time talk show. The first time was in 1999 and the show lasted for two years before getting cancelled. The first installment of the show was referred to as a “Dear Abby for the Hip-Hop generation.” However, in the later version of the show, Queen focused on celebrity interviews, giving back and inspiring heroes. It just wasn’t enough to sustain.
But Queen Latifah won’t be sad long. She’s already got her latest gig lined up! The beautiful actor/director/singer/rapper/all-around star is set to host the annual Nobel Peace Prize concert on Dec. 11 in Oslo, Norway. She told Hollywood Reporter, “I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s concert and to help celebrate such amazing individuals who have each worked so hard on behalf of children’s rights to education.” The concert will honor Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai, chosen by the Norwegian Nobel Committee for “their struggle against the oppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education.”
We’ll miss seeing Queen everyday on our TV screens. The last tape day is Dec. 18, and the show will finish out the season through February with reruns.
