Brittney Griner has assured fans that she is on the men after getting sliced up during an attack.
The recently engaged WNBA star got cut on the elbow when she was attacked by a man waving a knife as she boarded a bus in China on Monday. The pro baller sustained an injury on her elbow, but one of her teammates unfortunately stabbed after the guy followed them onto their bus.
Thankfully that woman didn’t sustain serious injury because the knife couldn’t cut through the two jackets she had on at the time of the attack.
Brittney let her followers on Instagram know that she is doing okay as she posted video of the team’s attacked being arrested.
“First let me say I’m ok!” Brittney wrote in a caption. “But last night me and 3 my teammates got chase and attack by a man with a big ass knife got a little scratch and my teammates walk away unharmed!” she wrote. “He chase us into our bus and had us corned yelling at us then he finally left!”
The main things she took away from the incident is that life is precious. She advised, “Life can be took at any moment! Cherish every moment!”
Brittney told the Associated Press that she was prepared to defend her life when the man came after her and her teammates. “I was thinking I was going to end up stabbed in China and if he got to us at the back of the bus, I was going to have to fight this man with a knife,” she recalled in an e-mail.
The basketball player said in the statement that the man was yelling and accused them of hitting his wife as he chared them. He then left the scene and came back a few minutes later covered in blood.
The incident didn’t keep Brittney from hitting the court the very next day, when she said she felt safe to play the game that she loves.
“The game the next day had more security than I had ever seen,” she said. “There were three to four cops at every entrance. They were everywhere and the team said they were going to make sure and add more security now too.”
