29295 Grand River
WHAT: The Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity will host US Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, Chair of the CBC, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee from Texas, G.K. Butterfield from North Carolina and other members of the CBC for a Voter’s Registration Rally and a Salute to Congressman John Conyers (one of the 13 founders of the Caucus).
WHEN: This event will take place at El Bethel Baptist Church, 29295 Grand River, (at 7 Mile) Redford, MI 48240 beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014.
WHY: This is a major event for the Council, says Dr. Lawrence Glass, President of the Council, the need for a massive show at the polls this election is major to the Citizens of Detroit. As people of color, we must not forsake our freedom and the right to vote. The Congressional Black Caucus comes to support Detroit and its efforts to get people to the polls in August and November. There will be voter’s registration on sight and the entire public is welcome.
The Council also salutes and supports the legacy of Congressman John Conyers, one of the founders of the Caucus. Rev. Glass continued that “Congressman Conyers, continues to speak to the salient issues of our time. His role addressing the crisis in Haiti, authoring the Violence Against Women Act, and promoting full employment and health care for those who continue to fall beneath the safety net has been critical to the communities we serve. Congressman Conyers was the only person endorsed by Rev. Martin Luther King, and now enjoys the endorsement of our President, Mr. Barack Obama. We in the Council support his continued and consistent mission for Jobs, Justice and Peace.” This event is open to the public.
