The city of Detroit released a statement as it relates to tax refund checks.
According to reports, recipients were issued two checks from the city of Detroit equaling the same amount; the problem is only one check was good to cash.
Detroit spokesman Bill Knowling said 924 identical checks were sent. He said the double payment was a mishap that should not have happened.
City officials say anyone who received charges from their bank as a result of the bad checks will be reimbursed by contacting the Detroit Income Tax Department.
