On Tuesday Governor Rick Snyder passed the Breastfeeding Anti- Discrimination Act which allows mothers to breastfeed in public.
Prior to now, owners of public establishments were permitted to request nursing mothers to leave the premises. That is no longer lawful in the state of Michigan.
Advocates banned together in Lansing to push the legislation. The bi-partisan bill passed unanimously in the Senate and 108 – 2 in the House.
Governor Snyder stated that nursing is, “a natural act with many benefits”. Michigan is the 46th state to enact a law to protect breastfeeding mothers.
