Detroit Public Schools will be 400 workers in the hole as a company that facilitates custodial and maintenance workers for the education system say the district is delinquent on a $15 million bill.

According to Michigan Workforce Development Agency, the contractor Sodexo filed a layoff notice. Sources say that effective July 1st the company will lay off over 400 workers who maintain DPS buildings.

Detroit Public Schools Spokesman Steve Wasko said that the district indeed owes the company money, but stated that the amount is still being calculated. Wasko also said Sodexo did not send qualified workers, which also played a role in the matter.
