Early Friday morning the Detroit Police Department along with SWAT and other law enforcement agencies swept the city in a police raid that began Thursday afternoon. Detroit Police Chief James Craig’s commitment to cracking down on crime was put into motion in Operation April Showers.
Police found crack-cocaine, marijuana, guns and even murder suspects during the raids. Neighbors on Appoline and Florence streets were relieved by the action and welcomed the police presence. One mother witnessed three of her children in handcuffs and was outraged by the idea of them being involved in the illegal activity.
According to sources, 35 people were arrested and Chief Craig said he hopes violators of the law are getting the message. He states that the raids will continue throughout the city of Detroit.
