The city of Detroit will launch a new property bidding website. The effort will assist the fight against blight in the city. Homes will be available for auction beginning May 5th. The land bank will start homes at $1,000 and increase in $100 increments until a winner is declared.
According to officials, those with a history of losing property and code violators will not be eligible to bid. You can view the homes on www.buildingdetroit.org . Open inspections will begin April 27th.
Mayor Mike Duggan said in a news conference that the city is looking to attract property owners who will buy and fix up homes in Detroit in a timely manner. Detroit Landbank Chairwoman Erica Ward Gerson said the best way to revitalize neighborhoods is by way of drawing more residents to fill homes.
