A controversial piece of legislation will soon become law. Yesterday the Michigan Senate passed a mandate that will require drug test for welfare recipients. This action will take place in three of the state’s counties.

If applicants refuse the test then benefits would be denied. Recipients who fail the test would have to undergo treatment. Beneficiaries who fail the second time would then lose their assistance.
