farmers-market-motown-review-10-26-13-wordpress-verisionWhen Motown Music makes its way to Eastpointe, people of all ages and ethnicities will be “Dancing in the Street.”  After a successful run this year, the Eastpointe Famers Market ends on a high note with live music from the Motown era, food, crafts, art and lots of fun that’s good for the entire family, Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 8:00am – 1:00pm at Eastbrook Commons, corner of 9mile and Gratiot. Showtime is 11:00 am.  On the main stage, Eastpointe Councilman Ronnie LaForest has arranged for some outstanding performances to include a live band lead by David Winans, family member of the world famous Winans Family and brother to multi Grammy Award artists Bebe and Cece Winans and Marvin L. Winans.  Vocalists are ZanYe’ Reece with a repeat performance on the Eastpointe Farmers Market stage and Beth Griffith, daughter of Motown Funk Brother, pianist Johnny Griffith.
Councilman LaForest is the event director and one of the Eastpoint Farmers Market founders.  He shared, “I have found that diversity begins with Motown.  It does not matter the color of your skin, your sexual orientation or what religion you are. The one thing that we all have in common is that we love Motown music and the Motor city.”
The Eastpointe Farmers Market started in 2012 with a group of individuals that started a grassroots movement called The Eastpointe Enhancement Commission (EEC). The founder of the group, Councilman Ronnie LaForest had a vision to bring exciting things to the city.  Members of the EEC are Michelle Liss, John Hofmann, Doug Trocino and Dr. Chris Dyki. The group partnered with the Eastpointe Roseville Chamber of Commerce and the Eastpointe Farmers Market became a reality.
The EEC wanted to start something that could evolve into a destination stop, so to speak. We envisioned improvements in walkability and attracting new specialty businesses, art and music to Eastpointe.  And with new Eastpointe/Roseville Chamber of Commerce executive director Danielle Bare at the helm, I really feel together, we can realize these goals and more!  Danielle has quickly proven to be an added value and a great team player,” explained LaForest.
