It looks like Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Madonna and Justin Timberlake won’t be making any concert stops in Florida anytime soon.
A growing list of Hollywood stars have joined Stevie Wonder in boycotting Florida over the state’s “Stand Your Ground” laws. The singer-songwriter announced the boycott last week, following George Zimmerman’s not-guilty verdict for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, and since over a dozen celebs have followed suit.
According to veteran White House correspondent April D. Ryan of the White House Report, the complete list of superstar supports includes Mary Mary, Jay Z, Madonna, Usher, Rihanna, Alicia Key, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Eddie Levert, Rod Stewart, Pattie Labelle, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, Trey Songz, Rolling Stones, R. Kelly, Rihanna, Joe, Will I AM, Keyshia Cole, Young Jeezy, Erykah Badu, Wale, Frankie Beverly and Parliament.
“I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” Wonder said during a concert appearance in Quebec City. “As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.”
He added, “The truth is that — for those of you who’ve lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world — we can’t bring them back. What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”
Mr. Wonder is decently accompanied by an impressive list.
