If you’ve ever wanted to have dinner with Spike Lee or sit next to him courtside at a New York Knicks game, here is your chance. The veteran director is raising funds via Kickstarter for his next feature film and he is offering some cool incentives for fans to lend their monetary support.
As with many Kickstarter campaigns, there are several tiers of support with bigger incentives at each level. While $50 will get you an autographed DVD of the yet-to-be-named film, $750 gets you autographed Nikes and $10,000 gets you dinner with Spike and a Knicks game at the Garden with one of the biggest fans ever.
So what is this movie that Spike is creating and why does he want outside money to do it? Spike explains in a statement on the campaign site:
With the current climate in The Hollywood Studio System it’s not an encouraging look for Independent Filmmakers. I’m not hating, just stating the facts. Super Heroes, Comic Books, 3D Special EFX, Blowing up the Planet Nine Times and Fly through the Air while Transforming is not my Thang. To me it’s not just that these Films are being made but it seems like these are the only films getting made. To The Studios it seems like every Film must be a Home run on a Global scale, a Tent Pole Enterprise, able to spin off Sequel after Sequel after Sequel after Sequel after Sequel after Sequel.
I have a different vision of what Cinema can be, a different vision of what some under-served Audiences might want to see. That is why I am here on KICKSTARTER, to raise the Funds for The New Spike Lee Joint, to get this BAD BOY financed.
He won’t say much about the movie other than it’s about “Human beings who are addicted to blood. Funny, sexy, and bloody (and it’s not “Blacula”)…”
