As much as hip-hop tries to disassociate itself from violence, it can never fully sever ties. Case in point, a young rapper from Miami named Nu Money was shot and killed last week.
The 20-year-old rapper born Kenneth Casilla was gunned down as he innocently sat in a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Little Haiti section of Miami. before his tragic end, Nu Money was building a name for himself by working with Rich Mafia.
Nu Money was originally from Brooklyn, New York, but later moved to Miami to help further his burgeoning rap career. According to his mother, Yvette Casilla, Nu Money was killed because people were envious of the strides he was making towards achieving his dreams. “He was in a car with somebody he knows and another guy in the back, and my son gets shot and nobody else gets shot. He wasn’t involved in anything, but jealousy, yeah,” she told NY1.
Law enforcement assigned to the case in Miami-Dade County haven’t discovered a motive nor do they have any leads on suspects. Yvette Casilla believes her son’s murderer is from the New York area. Despite believing her son’s murderer is from the New York area, she still hasn’t formed a hypothesis as to why her son was killed when there were two other young men in the vehicle. “They took my son. Why? What did my son do to them to kill him like that?”
