Neeosha Nelson held on as long as she could. But Saturday the decision was made to take the 18 year-old Dakota High School student off life support.

Neosha was hit last Tuesday morning as she crossed 21 Mile Road on the way to Dakota High School.

But as Neeosha’s family grieves they know she will live on, even in death. Her family is donating some of her organs to help another.

“They were able to salvage her heart, both kidneys and her liver,” said Latosha Nelson, who is Neeosha’s sister. “I just feel grateful that we were able to help someone who needs that heart. I just want to let that person know, [they] have a special gift.”

Neeosha had been on life support since she was hit last Tuesday by a parent who just dropped off their child at Dakota. The Macomb County Sheriff isn’t saying yet if that parent was at fault, but investigators are telling Action News Neeosha was not in the crosswalk when she was struck.

The teen’s family says they will now ask Macomb County to decrease the speed limit around the school and consider other traffic restrictions.
