Known for appearing in a number of Hip-Hop remixes and music videos, Travis Barker is currently working on his debut solo album.
The Blink-182 drummer has enlisted some of Hip-Hop’s finest to help him with the project including Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, RZA, Swizz Beatz, The Game, and Beanie Sigel.
While discussing the plans for the still untitled album with Spinner.com, Barker said fans shouldn’t expect to hear him singing or rapping over tracks. “I’m not singing or being an MC or anything,” Barker said. “Over the last five years, when Blink wasn’t around, I played a lot by myself or did a whole bunch of stuff with just me. Whether I was playing with T.I. or doing whatever, it just opened another world for me.”
Fans of his work in the Punk-Rock genre won’t be disappointed either as Barker says he intends to cover a little bit of everything. “I just love music. The more I can be around it the better, so with my album it’s no one genre. It goes from everything Punk-Rock to Hip-Hop to some Electro stuff on there to a metal song with Corey Taylor from Slipknot. It’s been really fun and interesting up till now.”
Blink-182 has been on hiatus since 2004. Following that the musician went on tour as a DJ-rock duo with the late DJ AM. The two made headlines after the private jet they were in skidded off the runway and burst into flames. DJ AM eventually died from a drug overdose, after experiencing trouble coping with the accident. Barker’s most recent Hip-Hop collaboration was with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Eminem at the 2010 Grammys.
