After days of speculation and reporting, television icon Don Cornelius’ unexpected death from a fatal gunshot wound has now been confirmed as a suicide.

According to reports, Cornelius killed himself with a gunshot to his head.

The agency made the determination after conducting an autopsy on Cornelius’ body Friday. Investigators are still awaiting the results of toxicology tests before issuing a final report. Police quickly ruled out foul play after responding to Cornelius’ Mulholland Drive home early Wednesday morning. His son had alerted authorities after receiving a call from his father. Details of his passing emerged online last Wednesday (February 1).

“Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius was found dead at his Sherman Oaks on home Wednesday morning. Law enforcement sources said police arrived at Cornelius’ home around 4 a.m. He apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing. The sources said there was no sign of foul play, but the Los Angeles Police Department was investigating. (Los Angeles Times)

Cornelius’ “Soul Train” show marked the dawn of a new era in black entertainment.

Cornelius is best known as the creator of the dance/music franchise “Soul Train,” which aired in syndication from October 1971 to March 2006. The show was the first major American TV venue for soul music. It was instrumental in bringing acts like James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson to a larger audience. Cornelius hosted the show from 1971-1993. He was known for closing each episode with the catchphrase: “I’m Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!” The show spun off the Soul Train Awards and the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards.(Orlando Sentinel)

He hosted the show from 1970 to 1993, and the program continued to air for more than a decade after his exit.

Cornelius, with his deep voice, stylish clothes and Afro, provided a hipper alternative to Dick Clark and “American Bandstand” when his show debuted on Aug. 17, 1970. It was syndicated a year later, making Cornelius a national star. Although he dropped out as host in 1993, the show continued running until December 2007. (New York Daily News)

Before Kanye West became known as one of the best rappers in the game, he was in a terrible accident back in 2002 that left his jaw broken in three places which had to be wired shut leaving him unrecognizable and wondering about his rap career. Even though Kanye spoke on the accident briefly in the past calling it the best and worst thing to happen to him, it was only recently that his good friend DJ Whoo Kid spilled all the details on what really went down in the studio before ‘Ye left and crashed his car’. According to Whoo Kid, Kanye left the studio angry after a failed studio session involving Luda and shortly afterward he was involved in a crash that could have took his life:

“It was me, Beanie Siegel, Kanye and 3H. We were all in the studio and Luda was in town. He f—–g came to the studio and was like, ‘I gotta go to f—-n’ L.A.X. so I gotta do the verse [quickly].’ So, what happened was, Kanye saw Luda and he’s a fan. So, Kanye goes in the booth and he’s rapping.[...]Like, he was rapping for like an hour. Luda didn’t know Kanye that well at the time so Luda was like, ‘What the f*ck is going on? I came to do this song. Yo, Whoo Kid, I’m here to do your sh*t. I’m out of here.’ I got nervous because I really wanted to get this sh*t done. I was like, ‘What? You leaving?’ I ran in there like, ‘What you doing, [Kanye]? Get out there and play that beat, yo!’

So Kanye’s looking crazy, you know, trying to impress Luda, but it wasn’t that time. Luda wanted to come in, do that verse and get the f–k out. So, what made it worse is he went out there and played a beat but by the time he got out there, Luda picked a Red Spyda beat. So now I gotta tell Kanye ‘Your services are not needed.’”

“So, to smooth it out I told him, ‘You know what, I’m gonna film you — shooting you spittin’.’ That s–t was crazy. I don’t think I [liked his rhymes] at that time. I saw the little twinkle in his eye, like, he was happy because I was going to film him.”

“I said, ‘Yo, let’s go outside and get a car scene.’ I’m trying to get him out of there ’cause Luda’s in there [mimics Luda rapping]. Luda’s mad ill. So under the car light I film him and he’s still rapping and going in like, ‘Killin’…Louis Vuitton…Versace….’ I don’t know, it was long, but two of the f—–g free styles he did is records he got out now. The Thing that’ bugged out is I filmed him after it was over like, ‘All right my n—a I’ll talk to you later,’ so he’s in the car heated and just peels off. I’m like, ‘Whew,’ and I go back in the studio and we get a phone call and they call 3H, cause you know 3H and Kanye’s really close. 3H came up to me and said, ‘Yo, Kanye just flipped his car. He flipped his s–t and he’s in the hospital right now.’ Once he did that then his mixtape came out and he showed his face. I think that if I hadn’t really angered him, or…I don’t know if he was really angry or maybe he drove too fast…I don’t know but we did film [it]. We have it documented.”

Cash Money Records’ Birdman is looking to cash-in on next month’s Super Bowl match-up between the New England Patriots and New York Giants by revealing a $5 million bet.

Daring any and all challengers, Birdman said he is placing his chips on the slightly favored New England Patriots.

Despite winning the million dollar Super Bowl bet, Birdman lost two million taking a gamble at last June’s NBA Finals.

When you bet big, there’s a possibility that you’ll lose big, which is a lesson that Birdman learned last night (June 12).The Cash Money millionaire lost $2 million on the NBA Championship game for betting that the Miami Heat would be the victors over the Dallas Mavericks. For the first time in franchise history, the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA Championship beating the Heat 105-95 in Game Six. What an interesting twist to the Kardashian saga…

Although a lot of what you see nowadays on reality TV is fake, the latest scandal to hit the Kardashian clan may be very real. Our favorite KDash, Khloe, has been the subject of tabloid fodder over the past few weeks after two of Robert Kardashian’s ex wives claimed that he confessed to them that she wasn’t his biological daughter. To add insult to injury, Kris Jenner admitted in her recently released book that she stepped out on Rob during their marriage with a mystery man, she calls ‘Ryan’. Since then, the media has linked everyone from OJ Simpson to Hollywood animater Todd Waterman (who admits he was involved with Kris during her marriage) to Khloe, however, according to Blind Gossip, Kris won’t have to take a trip to Maury to figure out who Khloe’s real dad is. It’s none other than her hairstylist of over 30 years, Alex Roldan. How’d that happen?

Meet Alex Roldan, Kris Jenner’s hairdresser. This is Khloe Kardashian’s biological father. He worked on a music video that Kris Kardashian did for her 30th birthday called “I Love My Friends”. Alex is now a hairdresser in West Hollywood. While Robert Kardashian was only 5’7″ tall, Alex is a much larger man, standing approximately six feet tall. BTW, Khloe’s middle name is Alexandra.

Although Khloe blasted her former step moms for being ‘disgusting’ on twitter when they ran to the tabloids, she already knows that Alex is her father. In fact, she is said to have been pissed that she was lied to all of these years. Kris, on the other hand, is already plotting to make the reveal on a future episode of the Kardashian show.

Kris is taking this another step forward. She wants to introduce Khloe’s real biological father as a plot point on a “very special episode” of one of the Kardashian shows. We’re going to spoil her surprise by introducing him here first. (FYI, Kris did tell Khloe who the man is already, so this is not coming a surprise for anyone in their family. Plus it’s all leaking out this week, despite Kris’ desire to keep it a secret until showtime to make the ratings as high as possible.)

The Congressman responsible for the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) announced today that he is withdrawing the bill from being considered in the Senate.

SOPA was initially aimed at preventing the theft of intellectual property and copyright infringement, but opponents to the bill suggested that it would do much more, like censor sites such as Twitter, Google, YouTube, and Tumblr.

Representative Lamar Smith of Texas, who introduced the bill, said today:

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy.

It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.”

In addition to SOPA’s withdrawal, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid has also made the decision to postpone the January 24 vote on the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA), which was proposed as a means to stop overseas websites from pirating copyrighted content.

The news comes after a scheduled Internet blackout, where thousands of sites, including Wikipedia and Google (FreesWorld also participated) went dark in protest of the bill on Wednesday. Ten million people also signed a petition in opposition of the proposals.

The protest caused many of the bills original backers in the Senate to drop their support.

More backlash happened yesterday after the United States Department of Justice closed file sharing site MegaUpload and indicted many employees of the company (which has rapper and producer Swizz Beatz listed as a CEO) for “conspiracy to commit racketeering and criminal copyright infringement.”

In retaliation for the move, a hacking group that calls itself Anonymous, proceeded to attack and take down the websites for the US Department of Justice, FBI, Universal Music Group, Recording Industry Association of America, and Motion Picture Association of America.

On Jan. 18, Walmart launched a “Get on the Shelf” contest to discover the next great product. So far, the contest has over 40 entries featuring products including a new hot sauce, cube game, hair accessory, iPad pillow and paw puffs for dogs.

According to a Walmart press release, the contest is similar to “American Idol” in that contestants will create videos of their latest inventions and the public will vote online for the winners. The grand prize winner’s product will be sold on Walmart.com and will get shelf space in select Walmart stores nationwide.

“Walmart has the best products at everyday low prices but we know there are some great undiscovered products that have not yet reached our shelves,” said Venky Harinarayan, senior vice president of Walmart Global e-commerce and co-head of @WalmartLabs in a released statement. “For a long time, the ability to get a product into a retail store was at the sole discretion of the store buyer. Today, we are removing these barriers by giving anyone a chance to launch their product at Walmart and reach millions of shoppers nationwide.”

Contestants can submit entry videos at GetOnTheShelf.com. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 22. The first round of voting will take place March 7 through April 4. After the first round of voting, 10 finalists will be selected. Those finalists will advance to the second round of voting that will take place April 11-24 after which the grand prize winner will be announced.
