Former Maybach Music Group affiliate Pill has stepped forward to speak on parting ways with Rick Ross’ crew and explained why he felt isolated in the roster of artists.

Rather than place blame on Ricky Rozay, Pill detailed how isolated he felt while with MMG.

“Nah, he never tried to get me to do anything different. He believed in me, from what I felt and what was told to me,” Pill said referring to Ross. “But it just never really materialized. Like he said in [his interview with MTV], it was a special stipulation to where I got to run with them ’cause I was already over at Warner. And I appreciate the love from Maybach [Music Group] and from Ross and everybody over there for giving me that opportunity because it got me in a different spot. It kinda saved me. It’s just that it never really went further to where it was supposed to go. All of us [in MMG] was supposed to be at that forefront, but it was like these three guys and then Pill. It was like, “D*mn, so what’s up with Pill? Why his sh*t ain’t on this radio station? Why his sh*t ain’t on MTV?” But everybody else’s was. So it was almost like I was just that other guy.” (Hip Hop DX)

Last week, Ross said despite their public break-up, he still had the upmost respect for Pill.

“I’m a real dude and I’m a real boss and once you rep the MMG flag, I’ll never step on your feet; I’mma give you a pass anyway,” Ross said in an interview. “Pill’s situation was a special situation because he was already signed to Warner before I did my label deal at Warner. So when I did do my deal, it was a business opportunity that was presented where Pill could run with the team for a year — I took that opportunity. That year ran its course and it was pretty much up to Warner what decisions they wanted to make with Pill as an artist after that point. I think they made it.” (MTV)

In early January, MMG’s Masspike Miles refused to address Pill’s label status.

“When it comes to sh*t like that, I don’t even comment on it,” Masspike Miles told hip-hop personality Futuristic Blogger when asked for his opinion on Pill disassociating himself from Maybach Music Group. “I’m gonna keep it funky. Like I said, it’s about my loyalty, brotherhood and being positive. Any of that f*ck sh*t, I don’t talk about it. If he blogging, more power to him, I wish him the best in the future. It’s Maybach Music over here.” (Hip Hop News 24/7)

A few days prior, Pill denied ever inking a deal with Maybach Music Group.

“I never signed any paperwork with Ross. It was just my deal was over at Warner already,” Pill revealed to MTV News Tuesday. According to the “Trap Goin’ Ham” MC, he was signed to Asylum/Warner Bros. Records at the end of 2009, a year before Ross brought his MMG label over to Warner Music Group. Pill says he is unaware of any conversations that Warner and Ross ever had concerning his career, but started receiving calls from Rozay around this time last year. The calls turned into collaborations — many of which ended up on Self Made Vol. 1, Ross’ MMG label compilation album. It was alluded that Pill was officially a part of Rozay’s roster, along with Wale, Meek Mill and a host of other artists, but that wasn’t the case, the rapper says. (MTV)

According to TMZ, the former Death Row honcho was pulled over at 5:34 p.m. for making an unsafe lane change in his black Bentley. After running his name through the system, police discovered several warrants out for his arrest from minor traffic violations.

Police searched the vehicle and discovered a small amount of weed in his possession. He was taken to a nearby jail and processed, though was released shortly after.

Knight is currently on three-year unsupervised probation for driving on a suspended license. This latest arrest could compromise the probation.

Detroit Public Schools Emergency Manager Roy Roberts on Wednesday laid out several school changes and new academic initiatives.

The facilities changes include closure of nine school buildings, where in some cases entire programs will relocate to other buildings. Four schools will become new DPS-authorized charters and seven outdated schools will be consolidated into four brand new buildings. The four new schools are part of a $500.5 million voter-approved construction program.

Academically, DPS will also begin to create an individualized learning plan for each student in the district to help pinpoint strengths and weaknesses. The individualized learning plans will be automated and built electronically from existing data systems, using tests scores from the MME, MEAP, and benchmark assessments as well as other data, such as attendance.

The district has closed 130 school buildings since 2005 due to shrinking enrollment or their rundown physical condition. About 66,000 students were enrolled last fall — a drop of 38,000 since 2007.

Nine school buildings to close (one to be repurposed for consolidation of other administrative functions)

Due to declining enrollment and shifting demographics, DPS has 69,616 students, preK-12th grade, in a district with seats for 110,660 students. The vacant seats, taken together, represent what would be equivalent to the second largest school district in the state. Future trends call for continued reductions in school-age population. Rather than continue to support buildings that are far under-utilized, DPS will close, consolidate and merge schools, allowing for additional resources for a smaller group of higher-quality facilities and to the students in those buildings. In a number of cases, achieving programs such as Ludington Magnet Middle School and Mason Elementary School will remain intact, while the programs will move to newer, better facilities with room to serve additional students.

Buildings to be closed: City High, Day School for the Deaf, Jemison, Kettering High and West Wing, Ludington (program moving to current Langston Hughes which will renamed Ludington Magnet), Mason (program moving to current Farwell which will be renamed Mason), Maybury, Robeson Early Learning Center (kindergarten students moving to main Paul Robeson/Malcolm X Academy and pre-K to palmer Park), Southwestern

Four schools to be chartered with DPS as the authorizer

Detroit Public Schools will charter four schools that face enrollment and facilities challenges and have been under-performing based on state standards. The rigorous DPS process to select proven charter operators that have demonstrated success with raising academic achievement will provide a new opportunity for these schools. DPS will continue to serve as the charter authorizer and will monitor the schools’ academic and fiscal progress.

Schools affected: Cooke, MacDowell, Noble, Rutherford

Seven schools to consolidate into four brand new school buildings

DPS will open four additional brand new schools for the fall as part of the district’s bond construction project, which will allow the district to consolidate 7 outdated buildings so that 4,500 children may start the year in state-of-the-art facilities designed for 21st century learning. These four schools represent $150 million in educational investments thanks to Detroit voters. Already, some 10,000 Detroit students are learning every day inside new or renovated buildings opened the past two years through this program.

Schools affected: Logan and O.W. Holmes to new Munger, Parker and Barton to new Mackenzie, Mumford to new Mumford, Crockett and Finney to new East English Village Preparatory Academy (a new application school for 9th graders with current 10th-12th graders at Finney and Crockett High Schools offered enrollment)

Open Enrollment and Application Periods

A new Open Enrollment period for families will be held from March 15 – April 16 to allow for important decisions to be made. DPS, new DPS-authorized charters, and EAA schools to be announced will participate. DPS application schools will participate in an earlier application period from February 20 – March 15.

Grammy-winning producer Timbaland has announced plans to put out a new album next summer and said fans can expect to finally hear elusive rapper Missy Elliott make a comeback.

If all goes accordingly, Timbo envisions both of their albums dropping at the same time.

“Me and Missy are both coming with our albums at the same time, and it will be in June,” Timbo told MTV News in his Miami home February 3. It’s been three years since Timbaland released Shock Value II and seven years since Missy dropped The Cookbook. If all goes according to plan, fans won’t have to wait much longer. “Right now, we’re preparing to get both our videos, our first singles, shot kinda at the same time,” Tim said. “We want to do it as a movement and spontaneously.” (MTV)

In April, rapper Da Brat hinted at Missy possibly nearing the end of her solo career.

“I was hoping for a ‘Ladies Night’ reunion. I spoke to Missy and she down for it. She want to do a song because she said this could possibly be her last album,” Da Brat said. “I’m definitely coming back out ASAP.” (Sister 2 Sister Magazine)

Last year, Missy and hitmaker Timbaland put out a record called “Take Ur Clothes Off.”

Timbaland debuts his new weekly series Timbaland Thursdays with none other than his frequent collaborator Missy Elliott. The best buddies are up to their zany tricks on the club-friendly “Take Ur Clothes Off,” powered by Timbo’s leftfield synthesizers and snapping instrumentation. Missy holds it down on the lyrical tip, dropping smirk-worthy rhymes to lighten up the track. “Been hot before Michael Jackson wore loafers/ Been rich before you even knew about Oprah,” she quips. Reunited and it feels so good. (Rap-Up)

Last week, Timbo released a special tribute record for New England Patriots superstar Rob Gronkowski.

The rapper Timbaland wrote the music for and was an executive producer of the song “Rob ‘Gronk’ Gronkowski.” The video shows highlights from Gronkowski’s 2011 season and already has more than 10,000 views. Wizz Dumb was also an executive producer of the song, which featured the rapper Brasco alongside Timbaland. It’s a longshot, but maybe Bruins winger Brad Marchand will continue to show off his rapping skills and make another Gronkowski tribute song if the Pats win on Sunday. (NESN)

The two rappers have planned to premiere the clip in full this coming Thursday, February 9, on VEVO. Accordingly, the upcoming video is going to include footage from their tour stop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. During the gig which was held last December, the two heavyweight rappers performed the song onstage 10 times in a row. (Ace Showbiz)

Hollywood actor Jon Heder recently reacted to Yeezy sampling his voice off 2007′s Blades of Glory movie for the hit record.

“I actually heard about it after the fact,” Heder revealed in an interview. “Then I called up my manager like ‘What’s going on here? Is there some kind of compensation happening?’ It was like ‘Whatever, the glory of the song is your compensation Jon. Listen to it.’ I was like, ‘All right.’ I am like one of those in Paris. [I'm a part of history?] Yeah, I guess, we have to give it probably a few more years to see its history. … I’m not quite sure what the connection is but I feel very but I feel very honored. It’s a compliment right?” (FUSE)

In November, Heder’s Blades of Glory co-star Will Ferrell said he hoped to get sampled on more hip-hop records.

“Kanye reached out to me and I said, ‘Of course,’ ” Ferrell wrote in an e-mail referring to the Blades of Glory sample request. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song … and when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” So much so, in fact, that Ferrell said he’s hoping to take the Throne collaboration to the next level — “We were trying to film a piece that they would use on the video boards of their concert, but haven’t gotten it together,” he wrote — and the whole process has opened his eyes to an entirely new career opportunity: Being the go-to sample guy on the hip hop circuit. “I think [something from] ‘Step Brothers’ would be good [to use in a song],” he wrote. “Or the Woody Allen movie I did, ‘Melinda and Melinda.’” (MTV)

Over the fall, Jay and Ye performed “Paris” seven times at a Detroit show.

Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne” tour came to Detroit on Saturday to a massive crowd at the Palace. The duo played 39 songs total, for a two-and-a-half hour set. Many of those were classic solo hits, but the pair also seemed particularly drawn to the song off their joint-effort “Watch The Throne” album. They were so drawn, in fact, that they performed “N*ggas in Paris” seven times. The multiple-encore is apparently not a new phenomenon, at least on this tour. West and Jay-Z played the same song six times at a previous show in Boston. And before that, they played “N*ggas in Paris” five times in Miami. (Huffington Post)

During the height of Hip Hop’s days of selling quasi-legal mixtapes in the streets, DJ Whoo Kid found himself on the wrong side of an industry beef. After a feud between the Terror Squad and Roc-a-fella camps that allegedly began at Club Carbon, a few overt and subliminal diss records were thrown back and forth. As was customary at the time, Whoo Kid put a Sauce Money diss track directed at Big Pun on one of his mixtapes.

“Pun calls me to meet him in Harlem, and here I am thinking I’m talking to the promoter,” Whoo Kid said during an interview with ThisIs50.com. “I get to Harlem to meet in front of the Apollo and get $1,000…I’m waiting and waiting. And I finally see a Benz with a Spanish kid in it.”

The Benz eventually led Whoo Kid to a housing project by tricking him into thinking he’d also meet Funkmaster Flex. But upon reaching the destination, the only bomb dropped was when Whoo Kid was led to a van that had Pun and some friends inside that were all armed. If Whoo Kid hadn’t made the connection between the meeting and the Sauce Money song, Pun was happy to explain.

“Pun said, ‘This record right here has the Latin Kings laughing at me,’” Whoo Kid explained. “That’s why you’re here. It’s not because I want to rip your head off, it’s because you got me looking crazy. And in the streets I’m respected by the Latin Kings.”

The mixtape featuring the diss song broke, and Whoo Kid managed to leave unharmed. But he said he learned a valuable lesson.

“What I’ve learned is that Big Pun was the real gangster out of the whole Terror Squad shit,” Whoo Kid said. “There’s a reason why their name was Terror Squad. Pun really went out there and did the shit…after they met me, Pun ran up in Roc-a-fella’s offices and did his thing.”

West Coast rapper Lil B has finally answered back fellow hip-hop artist David Banner’s summer 2011 swag-based shots directed at him on a new record called “I Own Swag.”

On the record, Lil B proclaims himself as a sole owner of swag.

With Valentine’s Day red roses in hand, Lil B responds to David Banner’s summer 2011 track “Swag”, a messy collection of talking points which called young rappers like B and Tyler, the Creator to task for being goofy-dancing atheists. On “I Own Swag” B sings back, You know that I’m more famous than you! and invokes Mac Dre’s “Not My Job,” where the Bay Area legend rapped, I can bust you a rap, but anything else, not my job. (The FADER)

Last summer, Banner’s “Swag” record reportedly took aim at West Coast artists like Lil B and Kreayshawn.

David Banner sparks a riot with his charged words on “Swag” off The Make Believe Album. The Mississippi MC/producer criticizes the new generation of hip-hop, calling out newcomers including Kreayshawn for her reported use of the N-word (she has repeatedly denied the accusations) and hip-hop collective Odd Future, who he claims “feeds evil to the streets.” “The homies is busting slugs/ The women is shaking a**/ A white girl call us ni**a and we just sit back and laugh/ We call it swag,” preaches the righteous rapper in a style reminiscent of Lil B. (Rap-Up)

Months later, Banner responded to Kreayshawn’s rap sidekick V-Nasty striking back at him on wax.

“It don’t bother me at all because let me tell you something. One problem with hip-hop is people try to act a certain way and they put it on their sleeve. I don’t have to talk about the stuff I do,” Banner said. “The stuff that I did that was hood, I can’t talk about it on the record. It’s funny when people tell these kids to be hood and they don’t stay in the hood. They give the kids this mentality of staying in the hood and that shows you what other cultures think about us as black people and what’s important to us and how they try to play us as black men against each other. The sad thing about it is at the end of the day, I’m the big mean black guy. Regardless of how articulate I am, if I move any kind of way I will always be crucified. Regardless of if it’s these Disney deals I’m doing, whether its these Paramount deals I’m doing, I’ll always be looked at in that manner so what I realize that as black people, we have to stop letting people play our culture like that.” (“Sway In The Morning”)

Over the fall, the Mississippi-bred emcee talked about hip-hop losing its originality.

“I think what ends up happening is we didn’t do what we were supposed to do. Kids are either a reflection of what you did or didn’t do. But the problem is, now, they are getting to an age where you have to be responsible for what you do now because you’re a man,” Banner said in an interview. “The problem is, there’s no balance. I think a lot of the backpack rappers, they rap they a** off, but n*gga, your beat’s wack. You rapping, but n*gga, you can’t make a hit song. You can freestyle your a** off but you can’t make a hit song. Then you got n*ggas who can make hit songs that can’t f*cking rap. You got R&B singers that can’t f*cking sing. Anything that’s talented and that you’re supposed to pay for, it’s supposed to be something that everybody can’t do. One of the reasons why rap is dying, because everybody feel they can do it. People don’t go to a Chris Brown concert thinking they can outdance Chris Brown. They already know they can’t.” (3 Digs)
