In a backup role to Connor Cook last season, O’Connor helped lead the Spartans in their Nov. 21 upset of Ohio State in Columbus, throwing for 89 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 25 yards.

Senior Damion Terry and sophomore Brian Lewerke are considered front-runners for the backup quarterback position, though Dantonio hasn’t solidified their roles.
