Actress and singer, Naturi Naughton, has long kept quiet about the shade that she has faced from Lil Kim ever since she portrayed the femcee in the 2009 Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious. But during a recent interview on VH1 Live!, Naughton addressed the beef, defending her role in the film, and explaining that she never had any hard feelings for Kim to begin with.
Naughton was asked about the recent VH1 Hip-Hop Honors and reports that Lil Kim demanded that Naughton not be present at any of the award show’s after parties, or anywhere within eyesight of the Queen Bee at all. “The shade is real,” Naughton said with an uncomfortable laugh.
Host Marc Lamont Hill then asked why the beef even exists, Naughton replied, “You know what Marc, maybe you can find out why. All I know is, I had the pleasure and honor of playing Lil’ Kim in the film Notorious.” When Hill explained that Kim was unhappy with Naturi’s portrayal in the film, Naughton defended her role “I was a first time actress in a film. This was the beginning of my career. I’m a little Black girl from New Jersey, why not uplift that?” She added, “I don’t have any beef, I don’t want to squash the beef that I didn’t have!”
It’s unlikely that Kim will respond to Naughton’s assertion, but at least we finally have the story from Naughton’s side, as well.
