A screenwriter from Gary, Ind. claims that Tyler Perry stole his storyline for Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
According to TMZ, William James recently filed a lawsuit against the filmmaker for allegedly stealing his idea from a screenplay he wrote in 2009 called “Lovers Kill.” James insists that Tyler Perry’s Temptation has the same plot and conclusion as his original piece.
Reportedly, James gave a copy of his script to an associate of Oprah Winfrey in hopes it would land in Perry’s hands.
If James’ story is true, then looks like his wish did come true.
Reps from Lionsgate and Tyler Perry Studios have yet to comment on the suit.
Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, which starred Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Lance Gross, was released in theaters on March 29. The film didn’t receive the best reviews from critics however it went on to earn $49 million.
