Anyone who’s ever lost a family member or significant other can tell you, the first year gets really weird among family members who have any kind of financial stake in the estate of the person who has passed. Often times people attach their emotions to that estate as if clinging to it will somehow dull the pain of losing their loved one. While each family is different, this is often the case.
TMZ is reporting that Michael Clarke Duncan‘s family is going through this turmoil right now with Omarosa Manigault. Reports are claiming that Michael Clarke Duncan’s sister, Judy Duncan, is asking for her attorney to start an investigation into Omarosa‘s possible involvement in her brother’s rewriting of his will, a few months before he died. He apparently altered his will to leave Omarosa as the primary beneficiary. Duncan claims her brother was not of healthy mind a few months before his passing and that it was obvious.
Judy also alleges that Omarosa was extra focused on Michael’s money while he was on life support and that Manigault has been selling off his possessions and memorabilia without consulting the family. These possessions include; watches, cars, his “Green Mile” director’s chair, awards, etc.
However, Omarosa fired back that this is just a ploy for MCD’s sister to get money out of her. She claims that Judy Duncan has been basically blackmailing her about the money. Omarosa tells TMZ:
“I don’t control the estate or the finances and Judy knows it. If you saw all of her emails and texts to me you would see that she is just trying to get money from me, and threatened going to press if I did not give it to her and that is a crime!”
We certainly hope all parties find peace, and are able to begin the healing process. Fighting over money after a loved one passes may shift the focus off the pain for a little while, but it won’t change the realities of what’s happened. Each family copes their own way. We hope this family is able to do this soon.
