Jay-Z’s BP3 tour sold-out The Palace with a crowd of 15,000-plus in Detroit. According to reports, Hov was in rare form.
“In his earlier days, Jay-Z was an unexceptional live performer, falling into the familiar traps — stiff performances, songs cut off after only a verse or two — that far too many rappers fall into. But in recent years his stage chops have sharpened considerably, as if he’s studied game tapes of his protege Kanye West, perhaps the most captivating live performer hip-hop has ever seen.
“Jay was at his best Sunday when he manned the stage alone, but he was often joined by his wing man Memphis Bleek, who added little and made Jay too comfortable on stage.”
